Despite the improvement of the housing market on a national level, suburban poverty is a growing trend impacting many cities in recent years. In Cincinnati alone, the suburban poverty rate has grown by 83%. Job losses and the subsequent lack of income bring the looming fear of facing a possible foreclosure. In our community, those facing foreclosure can receive free and reliable assistance from several local organizations.
Rick Williams, President and CEO The Home Ownership Center of Greater Cincinnati, discusses how his organization addresses Struggling In Plain Sight -- a term used to describe the phenomenon of suburban poverty that is sweeping the country. Stephanie Casey , Director of the Homeownership Preservation Ohio Housing Finance Agency, explains the Restoring Stability program as a solution to protecting a mortgage during difficult times. Sheila J. Cottle discusses the subject both from a Forest Park council member perspective and from the perspective of a client as she has received mortgage protection assistance through the Home Ownership Center.
